Abstract

An considerable amount of research during the 80s; Led researchers to believe mandibular growth direction is determined by genetic factors. And in turn, Somewhat modified by an environmental component.

Additional bone formation occurs due to the stress and traction of muscles attached to bone. Internal resorption occurs with the increase in oral capacity and functional demands of breathing, chewing, and swallowing.

The former perspective of mandibular expansion; Was that the displacing forces generated by prolific activity in the head of mandible, Active Cartlidge Necessitating the mandible downward and forward.

I.e. the head of mandible was the center of mandibular growth. As the mandible moves forward and descends due to factors during growth; The head of mandible and Fossa is a growth site, but not a growth center.

In summary, what are the factors that influence the process of mandibular growth, with maxillary growth? In this particular study the author applied MYO-MONITOR, to children between six and eleven years old who sought help at the clinic for orthodontic treatment. Care consisted of measuring the position of the mandible, and investigating the developmental changes to the neural muscular position during childhood.
