Abstract
One of the causes of Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD) is sleep-related
breathing disorders such as Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome (UARS) and Sleep
Apnea Syndrome (SAS). When airway obstruction reduces sleep quality, bruxism tends to increase during the light REM sleep phase. This leads to stress on the teeth, periodontal tissues, and temporomandibular joints, resulting in damage to the teeth and periodontal tissues as well as TMD.
In the treatment of TMD, patients with conditions such as rhinitis, nasal obstruction, snoring, obstructive sleep apnea, and bruxism require oral appliances tailored to their specific symptoms. For patients with multiple symptoms, it is essential to select an optimal device that improves sleep quality while minimizing stress on the temporomandibular joints.
Therefore, In this time, I would like to report a case of a TMD patient with Bruxism and Obstructive Sleep Apnea treated using an Orthosis made from the Neuromuscular Position, and explain about effective ways to improve each symptom.
