Abstract
Sleep-disordered breathing, such as Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome (UARS) and Sleep Apnea Syndrome (SAS), is recognized as one of the causes of temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD). Reduced sleep quality due to airway obstruction leads to an increase in bruxism, particularly during light REM sleep. This places excessive load on the teeth, periodontal tissues, and temporomandibular joint, potentially resulting in the destruction of teeth and periodontal tissues, as well as TMD. Therefore, the appropriate selection of oral appliances is crucial for the treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), which is one of these underlying causes. In this presentation, I would like to discuss three types of oral appliances currently used in my clinic, along with the clinical cases in which they were applied.
