"Conceptual Approach to Neuromuscular Orthotic Therapy for Condylar Decompression"
- Dr. Mac Lee
- United States

Biography
Dr. Mac Lee graduated from Baylor Dental School in 1972 and joined his father’s practice in rural Texas. In pursuit of advanced expertise beyond dental school training, he began extensive post-graduate studies in 1977 at renowned institutions such as Pankey, Dawson, and Kois. Over the past three decades, Dr. Lee has lectured extensively across North America on non-surgical periodontics, patient communication, and neuromuscular dentistry. Currently retired, he continues to write, teach, and engage with the public on TMD through podcasts. He also manages a Texas cattle ranch.
Abstract
This lecture will explore the conceptual framework behind the use of neuromuscular lower removable orthotics to decompress compressed condyles. Focusing on the biomechanical principles, we will discuss how bringing the jaw forward allows the condyles to shift into a more neutral and decompressed position. This forward positioning helps reduce strain on the temporomandibular joint, promoting comfort and joint health. By understanding the underlying principles, attendees will better grasp how this therapeutic approach creates a more balanced and functional relationship between the mandible and the TMJ. Practical considerations and clinical implications of condylar decompression through orthotic therapy will be emphasized.
